The Barn Sessions: Permission to Play
Friday 15th May
Kelmarsh Hall
When was the last time you played…
not to be productive,
not for someone else,
not to improve yourself,
but simply because it felt good?
The Barn Sessions: Permission to Play is a guided day experience for adults who want to let go, laugh, soften, and rediscover joy.
Set in the converted barn, walled garden, and wooded grounds of Kelmarsh Hall, this day invites you to explore play using movement, materials, and the natural environment — with no pressure, no performance, and nothing to get right.
Expect:
• Gentle outdoor movement in the stunning a walled garden
• Playful exploration through materials and nature
• A relaxed home-cooked lunch with playful touches
• Time in the woods, curiosity-led and unhurried
• Space to be present, laugh, wander, and enjoy
This isn’t about being silly.
It’s about being free.

Meet Your Play Mates
Introducing Rachel and Kate who will be guiding you though this fun-packed day.
Rachel Hewitt-Hall
Professional title: Psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in private practice.
Actual daily reality: Referee stepmum to three teenagers, servant to one ball-obsessed cocker spaniel, and chief advocate for adults who secretly want to spin in office chairs but think they're "too old for that."
I spend my days helping people rediscover something we all knew at age seven: that play isn't frivolous, it's fundamental. Somewhere along the way, we traded spontaneity for schedules, silliness for status updates, and finger painting for... well, fitting in.
I'm on a mission to bring back free-play—not as a wellness trend or productivity hack, but as the messy, joyful, completely impractical thing it's supposed to be. Because the world needs more adults who aren't afraid to be their whole, weird, wonderful selves.
Kate Warren
I’m a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor in private practice, integrating somatic-based therapies alongside energy practices and inner-child work.
Alongside depth and care, I bring a sense of humour, moments of play and shared laughter into the spaces I hold.
I’m also a mother and a grandmother to three children under six, which keeps my own inner child very much alive — from making fairy potions and freewheeling down hills to breaking into song or a spontaneous dance.
I value curiosity, wonder and awe, and believe that staying connected to playfulness is not about being childish, but about staying fully alive. This spirit of permission and exploration is at the heart of Permission to Play.
